2008 Detroit Literary Empowerment Gala, August 22, 2008
A star-studded atmosphere with all the glitz and glamour of Tinsel Town set the stage for the 2008 Detroit Literary Empowerment Gala. Second Time Media and Communications, in conjunction with Perfect Presence Event Planning, created a lavish ambiance with a Hollywood theme that will spark memories long into next year. The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, sparkled and shined as celebrities such as authors Sylvia Hubbard, Vincent Alexandria, Jessica Care Moore and songstress L'Renee graced the red carpet!
The crowd was blessed with performances by dynamic poets, Men-Tal, Honeycomb, Sunnchyld and Yueh. Acclaimed author, poet and presenter of the Diversity Award, Jessica Care Moore also blessed the audience with a prolific poem. They were also treated to the comedic antics of the night's MC, comedian Michael McDaniel.
Considering the focus of the gala was to empower our youth, one of the best performances of the night was given by the DFC school of Performing Arts Dance Troupe. The children stole the show with their powerful performance to Marvin Sapp's inspirational hit, Never would have made it.
National best selling author Vincent Alexandria, served as this years keynote speaker. Inspiring us all with his dedication to encouraging literacy.
